Homeless individuals are humans.
I founded Forty Love in honor of my once unhoused father to advocate for and help unhoused individuals via a boots on the ground approach through youth led change. From volunteering at an early age at local homeless charities with my father and interacting with people who come from less fortunate circumstances, I observed many people are quick to judge and fail to see beyond what meets the eye. I believe housing is a human right, not a character trait and homeless people should not be perceived as such. I have spoken and distributed flyers at local businesses, organized give-back nights with local restaurants, and even used my own money to cover expenses, from court/venue rentals to custom merchandise and even players’ insurance coverage, to ensure all proceeds went to combating the homelessness crisis. Despite the financial strain, I found fulfillment in my mission and began teaching tennis lessons in the community to maintain Forty Love operations. Despite initial doubts, Forty Love has gained significant credibility and traction in Kansas City and Missouri with plans to reach a nationwide audience this year.
